Primordial Deuterium after LUNA: concordances and error budget

چکیده
The accurate evaluation of the nuclear reaction rates and corresponding uncertainties is an essential requisite for a precise determination light nuclide primordial abundances. recent measurement D(p,gamma)3He radiative capture cross section by LUNA collaboration, with its order 3% error, represents important step in improving theoretical prediction Deuterium produced early universe. In view this result, we present paper full analysis abundance, which includes new critical study impact other two main processes burning, namely deuteron-deuteron transfer reactions, D(d,p)3H D(d,n)3He. particular, emphasis given to statistical method experimental data, quantitative uncertainties, comparison similar studies presented literature. We then discuss our on concordance nucleosynthesis stage Planck experiment results baryon density Omegab h2 effective number neutrino parameter Neff, as function assumed value 4He mass fraction Yp. While after results, quite precisely fixed, points excellent agreement combined also including Helium leads possible scenarios different predictions Neff. argue that systematics Yp would be great importance assessing overall standard cosmological model.

Primordial Deuterium Abundance and Cosmic Baryon Density
The comparison of cosmic abundances of the light elements with the density of baryonic stars and gas in the universe today provides a critical test of big bang theory and a powerful probe of the nature of dark matter. A new technique allows determination of cosmic deuterium abundances in quasar absorption clouds at large redshift, allowing a new test of big bang homogeneity in diverse, very dis...
متن کاملConnecting the primordial and Galactic deuterium abundances
The deuterium abundances inferred from observations of the interstellar medium within 1 – 2 kpc of the Sun range over a factor of three and the corresponding oxygen abundances show an even larger dispersion. While the lower D (and O) abundances likely result from depletion onto dust, the higher D abundances are consistent with the BBN-predicted primordial D abundance and chemical evolution mode...
متن کاملDeuterium Chemistry in the Primordial Gas
We review and update some aspects of deuterium chemistry in the postrecombination Universe with particular emphasis on the formation and destruction of HD. We examine in detail the available theoretical and experimental data for the leading reactions of deuterium chemistry and we highlight the areas where improvements in the determination of rate coefficients are necessary to reduce the remaini...
متن کاملPrecision Measures of the Primordial Abundance of Deuterium
We report the discovery of deuterium absorption in the very metal-poor ([Fe/H]=−2.88) damped Lyman-α system at zabs = 3.06726 toward the QSO SDSS J1358+6522. On the basis of 13 resolved D i absorption lines and the damping wings of the H i Lyman α transition, we have obtained a new, precise measure of the primordial abundance of deuterium. Furthermore, to bolster the present statistics of preci...
